“Here the motto of European Union – In varietate concorida, (united in diversity) – becomes musically perceptible.”

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
dear friends of wind band music,

Miners have many songs. „Der Steiger kommt” is the unofficial anthem of the Erzgebirge today. Miners don’t just sing it, they also play it enthusiastically on their wind instruments, in Aue-Bad Schlema for example for more than half a century.

Because of this long musical tradition in the Erzgebirge, the Bergmansblasorchester Kurbad Schlema has been inviting musicians from all over Europe since 1992. These musicians transform the health resort town into the center of European wind band music for one weekend in September.

It is a great honor and pleasure for me to take over the patronage of the European Wind Band Festival again this year. I greet all participants and visitors, no matter if they are here for the first time or have been coming for years. I wish you all a wonderful festival in the spirit of friendship and communication between the people and citizens of Europe. Here the motto of European Union – In varietate concordia, (united in diversity) – becomes musically perceptible.

I want to thank the Bergmansblasorchester, the city of Aue-Bad Schlema and all the supporters, donors and sponsors for their involvement, with which they combine the upkeep of tradition, the idea of Europe, and musical delights in the form of the European Wind Band Festival. I wish all participants and visitors good weather, cheerful mood and thrilling music.

Glück Auf!

Michael Kretschmer
Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony
