Stadtmusik Zürich – «Music for Zurich»
Founded in 1846, Stadtmusik Zürich is the representative music corps of Switzerland’s largest city and a fully developed wind orchestra of the highest calibre. Today, the orchestra comprises around 75 musicians. Each calendar year, the Stadtmusik performs one classical concert at the Tonhalle Zurich, one entertainment concert, six public summer concerts at various locations in the city of Zurich, and at other municipal, cantonal, federal and international festivals.
As part of Zurich’s Sechseläuten, an annual folk festival during which the people of Zurich bid farewell to winter by symbolically burning a snowman (known as a ‘Böögg’ in Swiss German), the city band performs two musical pieces. The performance of the Zunft zum Weggen (bakers and millers) and the Zunft zur Schneidern (tailors, furriers and cloth shearers). The guild performances provide musical entertainment during the Sechseläuten parade and in the guild halls until the early hours of the morning.

In addition to musical commitments, camaraderie is also cultivated. Fixed events in the calendar year include the internal barbecue and the ski weekend. In addition, a club trip lasting several days is organised at irregular intervals. Throughout the year, members also attend concerts by friendly orchestras and cultural events together.
