‘We don’t play brass band music, we play music on wind instruments.’
The orchestra was formed in 1964 from the former shawm band of the VEB ‘Delicata’ meat factory in Netzschkau, founded as the wind orchestra section of the BSG Motor Netzschkau. In addition to performances on Republic Day, election days, garden parties, company events and residential district festivals, the band also took part in the district championships for musicians. Particularly outstanding were its appearances at the GDR Sports Festivals in Leipzig in 1969, 1977, 1983 and 1987, as well as at the IOC Session, the World Festival in 1973, the Youth Festivals and the 750th anniversary celebrations in Berlin.
In the 1990s, the ‘Blasorchester des TSV Nema Netzschkau e.V.’ was known for its wide-ranging repertoire. In addition to traditional brass music such as polkas, marches and waltzes, it also includes mood pieces and modern pop and beat rhythms. Among others, they interpret pieces by artists such as Wolfgang Petry, Helene Fischer, Andreas Gabalier and Marius Müller-Westernhagen. Since 2008, the Vogtlanders have been performing under the name ‘Netzschkauer Musikanten’ and we are still a division of the local sports club today. For 60 years, the ensemble, with its approximately 30 active members, has been a fixture at various festivities in the Vogtland region and beyond.
For their first participation in the European Brass Band Festival, they have created a new programme that includes both well-known pieces and completely new interpretations.
