Stadtmusik Zürich – “Music for Zurich”
Founded in 1846, the Stadtmusik Zürich is the representative music corps of Switzerland’s largest city and a fully developed first-class wind band. Today, the orchestra comprises around 75 musicians. Each calendar year, Stadtmusik performs one classical concert in the Tonhalle Zurich, one entertainment concert, six public summer concerts in various squares in the city of Zurich and at other municipal, cantonal, federal and international festivals.
As part of Zurich’s Sechseläuten, an annual folk festival at which the people of Zurich drive away the winter by symbolically burning a snowman (“Böögg” in Swiss German), the Stadtmusik provides two ensembles. The game of the Zunft zum Weggen (bakers and millers) and the Zunft zur Schneidern (tailors, furriers and drapers). The guild games provide musical entertainment during the Sechseläuten procession and in the guild parlors until the early hours of the morning.

In addition to the musical obligations, camaraderie is also cultivated. Fixed points in the calendar year are the internal barbecue and the ski weekend. In addition, a club trip lasting several days is organized at irregular intervals. During the year, they also attend concerts by friendly orchestras and cultural events together.
