Mangling for the world

Tablecloths and bed linen are smoothed using expertise from Aue-Bad Schlema

Those who enjoy the fragrant bed linen or perfectly ironed tablecloths on a cruise ship usually have no idea that a piece of the Ore Mountains is involved. The powerful mangles that process tonnes of textiles every day in floating hotels come from Aue-Bad Schlema.

But the Kannegiesser name is not only present on the seas, but also in retirement homes, hospitals and international hotel complexes. The family-owned company from Westphalia is regarded worldwide as the market leader for complete industrial laundries, supplying New Zealand, America and Asia.

“We’re talking about truly enormous hotel complexes in the Mediterranean region and around the world.”
Andy Groß, Managing Director of Kannegiesser Aue GmbH

The range is impressive: washing machines, dryers, sorting and transport systems – everything an industrial laundry needs is manufactured at a total of six locations. Aue-Bad Schlema plays a special role in this. Thirty years ago, Kannegiesser took over the long-established GDR company TEXTIMA, which was already producing mangles at that time. Today, the site specialises in this technology and has increased its workforce from 21 in 1995 to around 100.

One reason for the growth: Kannegiesser also took over a regional sheet metal supplier, including its workforce and state-of-the-art machinery such as laser cutters and welding robots. This enabled a huge increase in vertical integration.

At the accompanying laundry forum, guests can take a look at what is, according to the company, the most modern production facility for industrial mangles worldwide.
