The Schneeberg Mountain Town Music Corps is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year – and they’ll be doing it with us at the festival. The orchestra from the neighbouring town has been a guarantee for a party atmosphere in the evening in the brass band arena for years. For the twelfth time, they will be performing modern brass band music, including electric and bass guitar, as well as rock songs at the anniversary festival, ensuring that no listener can remain seated.

Founded in 1965 as a small sports band, the orchestra, which had grown considerably in size by 1975, was awarded the honorary title of ‘Musikkorps der Bergstadt Schneeberg’ (Schneeberg Mining Town Music Corps) by the Schneeberg municipal administration on the occasion of its 10th anniversary and in recognition of the quality it had achieved. In 2001, the music corps was named the ‘Saxony State Mining Music Corps’ by the Saxony State Association of Miners’, Smelters’ and Miners’ Associations.
The repertoire of the 65 active musicians currently includes not only traditional mountain music, but also a wide variety of entertainment projects featuring big band sound and operetta, Bohemian brass music, and even rock and pop. Symphonic brass music in churches and concert halls is also very important to the orchestra.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the orchestra’s activities is its own programme at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig entitled ‘Bergmannsweihnacht’ (Miners’ Christmas), which is always performed to a sold-out house.

Concert tours have taken the orchestra to performances throughout Germany, as well as to the Czech Republic, France, Hungary and Japan.
For years, the association has been working very successfully to train its own young talent, with young musicians increasingly shaping the image of the music corps.
